Sampson Explorer Scouts meets on a Monday night at the Thames Hall in
Cricklade. Although we meet in Cricklade we have a very friendly group
of Explorers from Swindon, Purton and Minety as well as Cricklade.
We run a varied programme. Some activities are designed to support the Explorer Scout Award scheme and others are just for fun. A few activities from this terms programme include 5 weeks of survival skills leading up to a weekend activity, Pancake Fest 2012, some sporting challenges from the Scout issued ‘Our Sporting Adventure’ paper, Money Skills (by Barclays) and a Birthday party!
The unit enjoys outdoor activities and has good access to North Meadow and many other fields and tracks surrounding Cricklade which we will be making use of during our survival training.
We are also lucky enough to have access to a supply of pioneering equipment and carry out both indoor and outdoor projects. Our meeting hall is right next to the River which makes a great obstacle to build bridges over.
Participation in District or County activities is always encouraged. Highlights from the last year include Swindon Streetwise, Trash Trophy and our annual inter-unit Ultimate Frisbee tournament and BBQ.
During summer2012, 13 members of the Unit are travelling to the Dominican Republic to carry out work at a small village on the Haitian border. Fund raising for this event is being carried out and we plan to raise at least half the cost of the trip before we go.
